Happy 8th Birthday Graisi!

8 years ago we welcomed our first beautiful baby girl into the world. And our lives have never been the same! And that's a good thing :o) Graisi, here is the story of how you arrived...

Two months after Grant died, Daddy and I went on a weekend get-away with Mr. Ed, Mrs. Sallie, Mr. Andy, Mrs. Paula, Mr. Charles and Mrs. Melody to the lake house in Eufaula, Alabama. That weekend proved to be a very "adventurous" weekend :o) And one none of us will ever forget :o) Not to mention it was also Father's Day weekend of 1999. (That day was really hard for Daddy). Just a few weeks afterwards, I went to the doctor and she informed me that due to the fertility problems I had with Grant and because things didn't (seem) to go back to normal after he was born, it didn't appear that Daddy and I ever be able to have another baby without treatments again. I was devastated. I remember, it was a Wednesday night because I went straight from the doctors office to meet Daddy at church. We left and went home because I couldn't quit crying. Shortly after that and for some strange reason, I bought and took a pregnancy test. It was early one morning before work. To my amazement, there were two pink lines on it where there should have only been one. I opened the bathroom door and screamed out to Daddy downstairs. I immediately called the doctors office to go in and confirm my suspicions. And it was true! I was 5 or 6 weeks pregnant already. When the doctor told me we couldn't have anymore babies, I was already 3 wks pregnant with you!! You were a blessing right from the beginning :o)

We didn't tell anyone I was pregnancy until I was 10 wks just to make sure we were able to keep you. We told Mamaw Margaret and Papaw Dale at a restaurant in Alex City. And we told Mamaw Nancy and Papaw Harold at Mamaw Dunkerlin's house over lunch. Everyone was so excited and couldn't wait for you to get here. I had a wonderful pregnancy with you and felt great. No morning sickness and I wasn't tired.... until the end. Around my 33 week mark you decided it might be time to come out but it wasn't time yet. So, Daddy and I spent a few nights in the hospital trying to stop labor in hopes of holding on for a few more weeks. The Thursday afternoon before you were born on Saturday, I was across the street at our neighbors, Sue and Robby's, visiting when contractions started again. I was supposed to have stopped my medication, but I really didn't think you were ready nor was a Thursday afternoon a really good day for us to have a baby. Friday or Saturday were much better for our schedules. LOL! So when Daddy got home he went and got another Brethine tablet and it seemed to have stopped the contractions for now. This is where the fun begins.... Friday night our Sunday School met for karaoke night at Mr. Andrew and Mrs Amber's house. We had pizza and had a very good time between contractions. I kept in constant contact with my doctors office and the doctor said it wasn't time and that I would KNOW it when the REAL contractions start. I THOUGHT these were REAL contractions, but I was wrong. We went home and I woke up around 3am with the real thing. And girly did I KNOW it.... They HURT! Daddy drove carefully but really fast to the hospital downtown. When I got there the doctor checked me and said I had dilated a little bit, but she would come back after rounds and check me again. She didn't expect very much change in an hour... Well, in an hour, I'd gone from 2cm to 7cm and was headed for the OR STAT. I remember telling her that we hadn't called anybody and she informed me that we had better get on it because the anesthesiologist was on his way with my epidural for surgery. It all happened so fast and in no time you were born at 9:52am on Saturday, February 26, 2000. I couldn't stop crying with happiness because you were finally here. We'd waited so long for a healthy baby that we could take home, love and enjoy. You have not disappointed!

We've had some fun times and some not so fun times, but we're a family, none the less, who loves each other beyond measure. I am so proud that God gave us you to take care of and cherish. I'm proud to call you our daughter. You make my heart smile with your kind spirit and caring personality. The Lord had great plans for you from the very beginning. I look forward to seeing you grow and mature into the woman He would have you to be. I am honored to be your Mommy.

We love you Sweet Baby Graisi!

Happy Birthday, Graisi!

I had forgotten all about the karaoke party! But I now remember Shelli sitting around saying 'There's a contraction!' (or something like that). :)

Happy Birthday, Graisi! We hope you are enjoying your new trampoline -- I remember when your mom had one as a little girl too. (I was so jealous!)

Alecia,
What you don't remember were the times I was bounced off landing on my head and jamming my neck or landing wrong on the springs
or doing a face-plant on the mat. WHAT WAS I THINKING BUYING HER
THIS DEATH TRAP??? LOL In my adult wisdom, hers does have a safety enclosure and pads for the springs :o) Age and experience has taught me something :o)

Happy Birthday Graisi! I'm sure you don't remember me, but I skated with you and my neice, Abbie Grace, at the skating rink.

Shelli! I've been reading your blog for two or three months now and I'm just now learning how to post comments! Yes, I'm very new to the blogging world!!! No less, I just wanted to tell you it has been such a blessing to keep up with your family since our paths do not cross very much in this season of life. I went ice skating about a month ago and I knew who Graisi was from the photos you've posted on the blog. It was so much fun to get to chat with her! She seemed sooo much like you. I even told her about the story of her middle name! No less, your posts are so humorous that I always look forward to reading because I know I'm at least going to get one laugh for the day :o)
