My birthday started off early to get out the door for the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure downtown. Martin ran... not me. Just in case you wondered. He finished the 5K run in 29 minutes 14.43 seconds. Not all runners were timed so it's not quiet and accurate count, but he was 15th out of the 21 timed runners in his age group and 113th out of 192. I am so proud of him!! Alli Claire was just along for the ride and enjoyed the free raisin bagel from Panera Bread.
We'd dropped Graisi off before the run to attend a Girl Scout event and didn't get home until around 3pm. We left Martin and AC asleep and went to a birthday party at 3:45. We were movin' and shakin' to say the least. The 7 yr old birthday girl (B) elected for an ice-skating party this year even though she'd never been ice-skating. Thinking she was going to be Kristi Yamaguchi and perform twirls and spins and whatnot only to fall, fall and fall again. After about 15 minutes on the ice, Miss B decided skating was NOT her cup of tea and wanted to go home :o) After much sobbing, pouting and mom ordering her to get back out there, she actually had a good time and finally got the hang of it. Now mom didn't seem to think it was very amusing considering the money she's just paid, but as another mom who has two drama queens, it was pretty funny! I'm just glad it wasn't me :o)
After the skating was over we headed to Miss B's house for cake, ice-cream, cheese puffs and spinach dip (the dip was for the adults :o) YUM! Presents were opened, tissue and paper was disposed of and all of us were back out the door for my birthday Mexican dinner. Because nothing says birthday like tacos and good friends! After we got home around 8pm, I had a delicious cheesecake waiting for me with a card and a book from Martin and the girls. (Have I mentioned I have to sing the Happy Birthday song to Alli Claire at least once a day?) And finally it was bedtime!
Sunday, I finished Alli Claire's Halloween costume (I'll post the pics tonight or tomorrow). She's going to be a cooker girl and Graisi is going to be Queen Lucy from Narnia. I'm still working on that one.... It's proven to be a little more challenging. But I hope to have it finished by the weekend. Graisi spent the night with Mallory Sunday night and I picked her up early Monday morning for her orthodontic appt. She was supposed to get her brackets, but after Dr. Denney looked at the xrays, determined she couldn't b/c the roots of her front teeth are not fully formed and her eye teeth are coming in at an angle. We'll xray again in January to see if there's progress on the development. We're going ahead with the headgear to pull the back teeth back and hopefully open up enough room to straighten the eye teeth out. She doesn't have enough room for all of her teeth and at some point may have to have the teeth behind the eye teeth pulled. I'm a firm believer in leaving her eye teeth alone. Her bottom teeth are also coming in the same way as the top.... We thought we might squeak by with one set of braces, but that doesn't seem to be the case and she'll have to have another set when she's around 10 or 12. We still made the right decision about going ahead early and correcting everything we can now, especially the top jaw and we'll just wait on the next set...
Martin also went to the dentist Monday morning :o) He spent 4 hours in the chair and had everything that needed fixing fixed!!! I'm so proud of him. But he's still got to go back in two weeks for the permanent crowns, so it's not over yet. We've agreed that from here on out we (as a family) will floss daily, Alli Claire included, and everyone, including Martin, will go for our 6 month cleanings rain or shine. Read my words... we ain't doing this again. I had to have a presciption for Vicadin filled for him Monday afternoon and he slept for about 13 hours. Not gonna do it!
